San Pedrillo is the first station to reach by boat in Corcovado. Leaving for this daytrip at 7.30am, a 30min. boat ride takes you to this beautiful station situated directly on the beach. From there, starts a 3 hour guided hike deep into the forest. There is the possibility to view all 4 species of monkeys (Howler, Spider, Capuchin, Squirrel Monkey) as well as Coati, Great Curassow, Agouti, Wild Peccary, Sloth, Anteater, Crocodile – just to mention a few… After a delicious picnic at the station and time to relax, you start the 1 ½ hour hike up to the waterfall, where you sure like to take a refreshing swim in the lagoon. Because this hike follows the river, you may spot a Kingfisher, Heron or Jesus Christ Lizard. When you return to the station, the boat will already be waiting to take you back to Drake Bay. We return at about 2.30pm- unless we see whales or dolphins on the way. In that case we get back little later …

Sirena is the “heart” of the park- close to the beach, but far off any civilization. Leaving Drake Bay at 6am, you’ll reach Sirena beach after a 1 ½ hour beautiful boat ride along the coast. Your naturalist guide takes you on a 5 hour hike with a short lunch break at the station. There is the possibility to view all 4 species of monkeys (Howler, Spider, Capuchin, Squirrel Monkey) as well as Coati, Great Curassow, Agouti, Sloth, Anteater, Crocodile – just to mention a few. Sirena is well known for sightings of the Baird’s Tapir or the shy White-tailed deer. You may be lucky to view White-lipped Peccaries or a puma- both endangered species. Heading home to Drake Bay, there is always a chance to spot a Hump-back whale or dolphins. You’ll return from this adventure around 3pm.

Starting from Drake Bay, we offer several possibilities to explore the park to its extent with a private guide! Whether you start in Sirena and hike towards La Leona, start in Los Patos and hike towards Sirena, or start in Drake Bay and hike to San Pedrillo- we arrange all reservations for transport, overnight accommodations, and entrance. These tours are a special adventure and give you the chance to view more wildlife, since you start hiking at dawn.

Hiking in Corcovado is something special and a true adventure, for the park hosts about 370 species of birds, 140 species of mammals, 120 species of reptiles & amphibians, 6000 species of insects, and not to mention 500 species of trees and 150 species of orchids! Corcovado National Park was founded in 1975 and its 40.000 hectares are home to the rare Jaguar and Puma. Some species like the Baird’s Trogon, Red-backed Squirrel Monkey or the Granular Poison Dart Frog are endemic, meaning that you won’t find them anywhere else in the world. Our guides love nature with all their heart and never get bored exploring and explaining Corcovado. They will be just as excited as you to see a White-tailed Deer with baby, a Tapir swimming in the river, or the Two-toed and Three-toed Sloth hanging on the same branch …

The reefs and waters around Caño Island are famous for snorkeling and offer diving at its best. On a snorkeling tour, you are likely to see schools of colourful fish, rays, sharks, morays, or turtles. On this daytrip leaving at 7.30am, you reach the coast of Caño Island after a 45 min. boat ride. You start a 1 hour snorkeling session directly from the boat. Your guide will point out everything he sees down there and give you names and explanations following the session. After a delicious picnic on the beach of Caño Island, you’ll have time to relax, swim, or hike up to the lookout point. Then the boat takes you to another location for the second snorkel. We recommend staying close to your guide, for he sees marine life you may not spot yourself. You return from this adventure around 2.30pm- depending on whether we see dolphins or a whale on our way!

The coral and rock formations around Caño Island are one of Costa Rica’s top locations for diving. You may see schools of colourful fish so large, that they sometimes block the sunlight! Depending on the tide, you start a 45 min. dive at the famous “Devil’s Rock” or another wonderful dive site. Your guide will point out everything he sees and give you names and explanations afterwards. Followed by a delicious picnic on the beach at Caño Island, you’ll have time to relax, swim, or hike up to the lookout point. Then the boat takes you to another location for the second dive. We recommend staying close to the guide, for he sees marine life you are unlikely to spot yourself. Drake Bay is well known throughout the country for incredible sightings of humpback whales, which are passing by nearly all year round. You just have to be lucky to see one… But on this half day tour far out on the ocean you may spot different species of dolphins, like the spotted, bottlenose or spinner dolphin. Sometimes we are lucky to follow a school of dolphins, which can be 1000 jumping, playing, chasing around the boat! Also, you are likely to watch turtles, three different species of boobies, and the magnificent frigate bird. We provide water and fruit- just bring sun protection, a hat, your camera and if you have them, binoculars. This individual guided tour leaves at any time and requires a minimum of 4 persons.

The half day Canopy Tour starts either at 7.30am, 10.30am or 1.30pm. You’ll be picked up at one of those times in front of your hotel, where they will also drop you off after the trip. A beautiful 20 minute ride brings you up to Los Planes, which is part of Drake Bay. After an introduction at the canopy station about safety, you start your adventure ziplining between 14 platforms. The longest cable is 400m(!), and you’ll view primary and secondary rainforest from 30m above the ground! The canopy guides speak Spanish, English and German and are happy to answer all your questions about the rainforest. Please wear comfortable pants and bring your camera - the guides take pictures of you in action!

Our special offer is a combination of canopy tour and horseback riding to the waterfall including lunch.

To go on a horseback riding tour, you don’t need to be an experienced rider. Our horses are well-trained and friendly, and you’ll have the chance to view the jungle from a different angle. We offer half-day or full-day individual tours. The guide takes you along the beach, up the mountain, through the river or to a waterfall where you can go for a refreshing swim. You’ll see lots of animals, especially birds and explore hidden trails throughout the rainforest. With the full day tour comes along a typical Costa Rican lunch. These individual tours leave any time you like with just a 2 person minimum.

Starting at 5.30pm with your local naturalist guide, this 2 ½ hour tour gives you possibility to see rare nocturnal mammals such as opossum, armadillo or paca, as well as snakes, frogs, insects or bats. You’ll sneak through the forest, while the guide explains how to spot animals by sound or smell… A night hike is an unforgettable experience! Please wear long pants and hiking boots, and don’t forget your camera. We provide flashlights.

For those who have special interest in insects, we can arrange a nocturnal tour with Tracy, the famous “buglady”.

Costa Rica is famous for its colourful species of frogs, some of them with toxic skin. One Green and Black Poison Dart Frog for example has enough poison in his skin to kill several humans! These tiny, beautiful amphibians are hard to spot and it takes an experienced guide to find them by their sounds. A frog tour is exciting and if you are very lucky, you may see a Red-eyed Tree Frog, a Granular Poison Dart Frog and a Glass Frog on one tour… But also Litter frogs, Giant Toad or other species of animals will be seen on this 2 ½ hour tour which you can start any time of the day or after dark.

It’s your choice to go on an early morning or sunset tour to see colourful birds, such as scarlet macaw, toucan, trogon or tanager. Your naturalist guide recognizes most birds by the sound and after the tour you might be able to remember the sound of a laughing falcon or antbird… On this 2 ½ hour tour you’ll easily spot between 20-40 species of birds. Please wear hiking shoes, and so you have, bring binoculars and of course your camera.

This daytrip, leaving Drake Bay at 7am, leads you into the “Terraba- Sierpe National Humid Forest Reserve”. This mangrove forest and swamps covers about 220 sq km and is the largest protected mangrove area within Central America. While floating through tiny channels, your naturalist guide will point out wildlife such as crocodiles, caimans, turtles, monkeys or coatis. Mangroves are also a paradise for bird watchers. In the port-town of Sierpe, you will have the possibility for lunch overlooking the river and shop some souvenirs. We return from this adventure around 2pm. Please bring sun protection, a hat, camera, and binoculars.

On this private tour, you go far out on the Pacific Ocean to catch your dinner… There’s good possibility to catch a Roosterfish, Red Snapper, Tuna, or Mahi Mahi. You may view dolphins or whales, and your naturalist guide will answer all your questions about marine life.
